Free-ish art: splatter paint

You probably don’t even need to buy anything for this project. Ask your congregation if they have any old canvases lying around they could donate to the youth (some people do too many paint nights!), or you can usually find used ones at thrift stores for cheaper than new ones. You or the youth can paint them white and then when it’s dry, use painter’s tape to tape out a design. Dilute paint with a little water so that it splatters more easily. How much water you need will depend on the type of paint you use, so just experiment with what ratio is best. We used acrylic paints.

GO OUTSIDE FOR THE PAINTING and give kids junk t-shirts to wear when they are painting if they haven’t come dressed for the activity. Experiment with different materials for the spatter: paint brushes, foam brushes, tooth brush, etc. Remove the tape to reveal your design.

Does your church have a blue room? A general meeting room with come comfy-ish chairs and a distinctive churchy smell? I feel like every church I’ve attended does. Use this art to give it a refresh!
